Home Remedies for Skin Irritation

5 Home Remedies for Skin Irritation

I have 5 home remedies for skin irritation that will hopefully provide some helpful guidance as you search for natural ways to support your family.

Here we are going to talk about five tips, all about home remedies, things you could be doing in the home to support your family when skin irritation arises.

Why you may be experiencing Skin Irritation

Now, this might be something like a contact dermatitis, something that’s happening because we’ve been in contact with an irritant.

Or maybe your body is telling you that there’s something not quite right going on inside and is therefore displaying a reaction or ‘sign’ on the outside.

Our skin is our biggest organ, and it’s way of telling us that something is not right is to display to us through our skin in the form of inflammation or irritation.

It may come in the form of a rash, dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, whatever’s going on at that point in time.

Remedy 1 – Check your Vital Nutrients to support Skin Irritation

My go to supplement for vital nutrients is the Life Long Vitality Pack which many love and you can try with a money back guarantee. It's a phenomenal product.

The first home remedy for skin irritation is one that worked extremely well for me!

And this is to check your vital nutrient levels.

After my first child, I did not supplement when I should have bean and I got very sick.

My body was screaming at me in the ways it could.

I got a psoriasis like rash all the way over my hands and up my arm.

The minute that I started to replenish my vital nutrients, my health came back.

So the psoriasis on my skin was literally my body’s way of telling me there’s something not quite right going on in-side.

Number one is to check vital nutrition levels.

My go to supplement for vital nutrients is the Life Long Vitality Pack which many love and you can try with a money back guarantee. It’s a phenomenal product.

Make sure you support your body with what it needs and to function well!

Remedy 2 – What are you Eating that may effect your Skin

Inflammatory foods such as dairy, wheat (gluten), processed sugar all have been linked as a cause of skin irritation.

The number two home remedy for skin irritation is to think about the food you’re eating.

Skin irritation may be a symptom of something you are eating or drinking.

Intolerances play a huge role in skin ailments.

Inflammatory foods such as dairy, wheat (gluten), processed sugar all have been linked as a cause of skin irritation.

I have spoken to so many women who have kids, and they say to me ‘the minute I removed dairy or gluten from their diet, their skin irritation disappeared.’

So that’s my second tip for you.

Check what you or your children are eating and make sure that they are not intolerant or having some sort of reaction to those types of foods.

The reason I suggest dairy and wheat, is because it is very common that we have reactions and intolerance to these two high inflammatory foods.

Out of the home remedies for skin irritation that we discuss today dairy and gluten intolerances or reactions would be one of the most undetected causes of skin irritation.

Remedy 3 – Look at your Exposure to Chemicals that may be causing Skin Irritation

Chemical exposure, especially with contact dermatitis is often a reaction we get from chemical exposure on our skin.

The third home remedy for skin irritation is to think about exposure to chemicals.

Chemical exposure, especially with contact dermatitis is often a reaction we get from chemical exposure on our skin.

A common example of this is simply from what we wash our clothes in.

A large amount of contact irritation issues arise from the chemicals and fragrances found in laundry detergent.

As shared in our Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent blog:

Commercial laundry detergents contain toxic synthetic fragrances (this is what gives them the long lasting smell).

A report by the National Academy of Sciences reveals that approximately 95 percent of the chemicals used in synthetic fragrances are derived from petroleum (crude oil). These chemicals include things like carcinogenic benzene derivatives, aldehydes, toluene, and a bunch of other toxic chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects, allergic reactions, and central nervous system disorders.

It is recommended that you stay well away from these types of chemicals and start to make your own homemade liquid laundry detergent to look after your families health.”

So many of us just need to use something natural to wash our clothes.

By using a natural detergent or making our own, we move away from the exposure to destructive chemicals such as fragrances and artificial chemicals.

These chemicals are very toxic. so the best thing you can do is to remove exposure and support your skin and body for better health.

This will also support those with sensitive skin or those who are more prone to allergies and skin irritation.

Also check the products. that you wash your body in.

What you put on your body is very, very important and can lead, especially if it’s a commercial, chemical based product to skiun irritation.

Check the labels for fragrance or parfum, parabens and preservatives.

If you find you are using products that contain these nasty chemicals, remove them from the home and use natural alternatives such as a natural body wash, natural hand soap and wear natural perfumes.

Remedy 4 – Support your Skin Naturally

The fourth home remedy for skin irritation is to nurture you skin with natural products.

We want to identify the cause of the skin irritation however, in the meantime, as our body adjusts, we need to support our skin.

We need to soothe the skin!

What are some of the things you can be doing from home in the meantime, why our body readjusts and realigns?

As our body works through that intolerance or that reaction, what can we do to support it?

So tip four is to use something natural.

Don’t go to the chemist or the doctor (if you can avoid it) and grab a chemical based cream or solution to put on the skin.

We need to soothe the skin and so what are some of the things you can be doing from home in the meantime, why our body readjusts and realigns?

Use something natural.

You don’t need to add to the problem and chemicals add to the problem.

Try something natural first.

Personally this is exactly what we do for every family member in our home.

I go to my natural mumma toolkit and I look over my essential oils, and I choose the oils that are going to support the irritated skin in the way it needs supporting.

So just say my kids might have a bit of an itch going on….then I will take the lavender and the frankincense that I know will support the skin with it’s anti-tch properties as well. We will just dilute a few drops of essential oil with fractionated coconut oil and apply over the body.

If there’s inflammation or the skin is dry, we’re going to get essential oils like yarrow pom as it is really nourishing and soothing and enriching to the skin add some juniper berry and helichrysum and dilute in fractionated coconut oil.

If we have other issues going on and we need anti-septic properties then I would choose tea tree (melaleuca) essential oil diluted in some fractionated coconut oil as a fantastic support.

Maybe your baby has

then, tea tree. frankincense, lavender, are amazing combinations.

So you can see just by having good quality, top notch essential oils in your mumma toolkit you are empowered at home.

You have a home remedy that can support the skin while the body readjusts.

Essential oils are amazing plant resources that we have at our finger tips and can utilise all the amazing benefits if used properly and safely.

Make sure you source the most pure, therapeutic oils you can and make sure the company is transparent in sharing test results and important quality information with you as a consumer. We love doTERRA for this reason and you can learn more here.

Remedy 5 – Take a Magnesium Salt Bath

Try taking a warm magnesium salt bath, maybe have a couple of drops of lavender essential oil in there, and make sure it's good, unadulterated oil.

The fifth home remedy for skin irritation is to take a magnesium salt bath.

Try taking a warm magnesium salt bath, maybe have a couple of drops of lavender essential oil in there, and make sure it’s good, unadulterated oil.

Magnesium salts or epson salts help the body and skin to detox.

When we have irritation, there’s obviously something causing that.

When we start to eliminate the toxins from the body it can help the body to move through the healing process.

Many find a warm bath very soothing to the skin as well.

And then when you get out of the bath, instead of using a chemical based moisturiser or solution try using a natural oil based lotion.

We love to apply soothing

with some fractionated coconut oil and lather over the body.

Refer to home remedy four for the appropriate essential oils to use with the fractionated coconut oil.

This combination is going to be a great way to support and nurture your skin as your body moves through the elimination and repair process.
